If I Had to Build the Perfect Space for Reading and Writing

If I had to build a perfect space for reading and writing, I would first consider the community of poets I am a part of at the World Poetry Collective. This incredible group of creatives inspires me every day, and their influence would undoubtedly shape my vision. After 20 minutes of reflecting on this question, I decided once and for all: I’d build the World Poetry Center.
A Place for All Poets
The World Poetry Center would be a sanctuary for poets from every corner of the globe—a place where anyone with a passion for poetry is welcome. It would be nestled in a remote natural environment, possibly a lush forest, where the serenity of the surroundings could inspire profound creativity. Imagine towering trees, a symphony of birdsong, and the gentle rustle of leaves accompanying every poem written and read.
A Campus of Creativity
The campus of the World Poetry Center would be designed to foster connection and creativity. It would feature:
- Dining Halls: Spaces where poets could gather to share meals, ideas, and inspiration. The communal dining experience would nourish not just the body but the soul, sparking conversations that lead to poetic breakthroughs.
- Poetry Halls: Grand yet intimate spaces for readings, performances, and workshops. Here, poets could share their work, collaborate, and celebrate the power of words.
- Libraries: A treasure trove of poetry, from ancient classics to modern masterpieces, and an extensive digital archive documenting contemporary voices. These libraries would be a haven for readers and a resource for writers seeking inspiration or research.
A Utopian Vision
The World Poetry Center would be more than just a place—it would be a movement. A gathering spot for those who believe in the transformative power of poetry, it would be a utopia where creativity flourishes and voices from diverse backgrounds unite. It would be a place where poets could not only refine their craft but also find belonging and community.
From Vision to Reality
This dream isn’t just about creating a space—it’s about fostering a world where poetry is celebrated, shared, and preserved. At its heart, the World Poetry Center would embody the values of the World Poetry Collective: inclusivity, creativity, and a profound love for the art of words.
So, I ask you: What would your perfect space for reading and writing look like? How would it reflect your values and aspirations as a writer? Share your vision in the comments below. Let’s imagine a world where every poet has a place to call home.
